Marrakech benefits from many improvements and enhancements as the city is preparing itself for COP22 Conference due to take place 07th to 18 November 2016
With COP22 fast approaching it is worth mentioning newly found many enhancements lately done to the city of Marrakech. Main streets have been repainted, sometimes even benefited from a new layer of asphalt. Solar-power lamps have been installed as well as spectacular new illuminated decorations were strategically placed in prominent places such as roundabouts on main entries leading to Marrakech.
A new sculpture depicting the continent of Africa has graced lately the entry to the main Train Station in Marrakech. It presents a number of people in different positions (standing, kneeling, etc). It makes even bigger impression at night time when one can see red lights at the top of the monument powered by solar batteries.
The biggest change in the city is the newly built terminal 2 of Marrakech Airport. Apart from the vastness of the construction and beautiful golden arabesque styled decor of the outer walls one can admire a magnificent globe-like construction in the middle which will house the shopping mall for travellers. Undoubtedly it shall be the most impressive of all the recent enhancements which will all be the lasting legacy of COP22 improvements long after the Conference is over.
The Moroccan authorities have undertaken so many projects to make Marrakech look even more impressive. A new tent village has been erected at Bab Ighli to accommodation representatives from 195 countries as a stage for workshops, meetings and sessions during two weeks of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Every effort is being made to make sure visitors are well catered for. You can imagine the magnitude of the task. Thousands of visitors coming and you would like to impress each and every one of the delegates.
All this busyness, needless to say, is good for local businesses. Hotels are fully booked at the beginning of November. Car rental industry also enjoys the rise in the number car bookings. To check the latest car availability please contact zimacar.com .
For those who are unaware of what COP22 is, we wish to inform you that UNFCCC was created in 1994 and as international platform it aims at reducing the emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. 195 countries meet every year for two weeks to share information on emissions, discuss the implementation of national strategies, compare adaptation to impacts of climate change, help out and support the developing countries and cooperate on being prepared to climate change.
It represents a new drive and interest of people who became worried about our planet and the impact of climate change. Some are very concerned about the state of the planet Earth and how it will be passed to the next generations. Many are still hopeful that a serious and drastic course to fight global warming is still a viable option. Meetings such as COP22 serve as a platform to exchange opinions and negotiate a better outcome. Though it is a tough negotiation because the biggest polluters are among the richest countries and they face developing poorer countries at the other end of negotiating table.
